Taxpayers may be eligible for a $1,400 stimulus check if they were overlooked during the first wave of checks in 2021. When the IRS sent out stimulus checks due to the financial adversity caused by COVID-19, many taxpayers failed to claim a Recovery Rebate Credit on their tax returns. This IRS will be paying $2.4 billion to one million Americans by the end of January.
We know you have questions about your eligibility and how much money you will receive. We have answers!
Am I eligible for a stimulus check?
If you left the data field blank for Recovery Rebate Credit or filled it out as $0, and you were in fact eligible, then you will be receiving a payment. After review, the IRS determined that around one million people failed to claim this recovery on their tax returns.
How much money will I receive?
As stated before, payments will be up to $1,400 per person. Payments may vary.
How will I receive my stimulus check?
The IRS will be sending out letters in the mail to eligible taxpayers notifying them of the payment they will be receiving. Your payment will automatically be sent by direct deposit or check by late January.
What if I haven’t filed my 2021 tax return?
You have until April 15, 2025, to file your 2021 tax return which might make you eligible for this stimulus check. Any job or source of work regardless of how much you made, could qualify you for this payment.
Payments will automatically be sent out to those who meet these criteria, meaning you do not have to fill out any paperwork or submit a claim. If you need legal assistance regarding taxpayer issues related to tax fraud, identity theft or other IRS related issues, please contact Lone Star Legal Aid.
