Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month – “Love Like That”

Each February, young adults, their loved ones and domestic violence advocates nationwide raise awareness about teen dating violence through Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month (TDVAM). The purpose of this campaign is to promote education about dating abuse before it starts.

Dating violence is more common than people think, especially among teens and young adults. 1 in 3 teenagers will experience physical, sexual, or emotional abuse from someone they’re in a relationship with before becoming an adult. To put it in perspective, nearly half of U.S. college women report experiencing violent or abusive dating behaviors.

This year’s theme for TDVAM is ‘Love Like That.” This theme poses the difference between healthy and unhealthy relationships. Love is Respect Organization says “We know that love is more than a feeling; no matter how you define it, it’s essential to ensure you’re on the same page with your partner about the definitions and boundaries of your relationship.”

Lone Star Legal Aid is a proud advocate for TDVAM. Through our mission, we provide legal representation for survivors of abuse and disseminate relevant information to our community.

Survivors may face concurrent cases in the federal criminal court, local criminal court, immigration court, and local civil court—all related to the crime they suffered, all at the same time. Our Crime Victim Unit assists survivors of crime with civil legal issues they are facing because of the crime committed against them.
