Lone Star Legal Aid Offers Free Legal Help to Survivors of Pasadena/Deer Park Tornado

Pasadena, Texas – Lone Star Legal Aid is available to low-income individuals who suffered wind damage and other conditions caused by the powerful cold front that caused tornadoes and torrential rain in the Southeast Houston, Pasadena, and Deer Park areas on Tuesday, January 24, 2023.

An EF3 tornado tore through Southeast Houston and the surrounding area earlier this week, causing major destruction in its wake. There are multiple roads blocked, power lines and poles down, and heavily damaged homes and other structures with debris covering a lot of the area. Complete buildings collapsed, and many drivers were stranded after being overturned by winds or caught in high water due to the rain.

We provide free legal help to low-income disaster survivors. Our team of attorneys has extensive experience helping families in our service area and those who have relocated to our service area in an evacuation during or following a major disaster.

Examples of legal assistance available include:

  • Assistance securing government benefits as they are made available to disaster victims;
  • Assistance with life, medical, and property insurance claims;
  • Help with home repair contracts and contractors;
  • Replacement of wills and other important legal documents lost or destroyed in the disaster;
  • Consumer protection issues, such as price-gouging and avoiding contractor scams in the rebuilding process;
  • Mortgage-foreclosure problems; and
  • Landlord-tenant problems.

We worked with buildingcommunityWORKSHOP and the American Red Cross to develop the following guides to help survivors navigate recovery after a disaster.
