Although we try our best, we don’t have enough resources to represent everyone who needs us. One study has shown that we can directly help only 20% of the people who qualify and need our help. If we are unable to take on your case, there is hope.
You may be wondering what resources are available to non-clients. Lone Star Legal Aid offers a wide variety of resources outside of legal advice and representation to address different issues and provide extensive assistance to the entire community.
On our home page, under the “services” tab, you’ll find a self-help tool. This page provides information and resources for people who need help with civil legal issues. Our Disaster Content Development team has designed multiple virtual interviews that simulate a meeting with an attorney to discuss various issues like eviction, disaster recovery, foreclosure, and unemployment benefits. These virtual interviews help clients prepare legal documents they may need to file in court.
In partnership with Texas Legal Services Center, we have also launched an Eviction Text Messaging Program. This program provides text message reminders of deadlines, links, and answers questions about the eviction process. Learn more about this program here.
The self-help page also hosts our online application for free legal services. Once the application has been processed, qualifying clients are assigned to an attorney who will set up a meeting to discuss their case.
We have organized our resources into a single library for easier access and convenience. Here, you can find flyers, online tools, applications, toolkits, workshops, forms, and instructional videos in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese. These resources cover a variety of topics, including disaster relief, environmental nuisance, eviction, and COVID-19.
Since 2020, Lone Star Legal Aid has been regularly hosting livestreamed presentations in partnership with community partners in our different service areas to make legal information accessible for all. These videos are public on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. We have 4 ongoing series that focus on subjects in certain specific fields.
Sponsored by our community partners, Texas Law Help is a website that provides free legal services to underserved Texans in need of education, advice, and representation. This includes free legal events and clinics; guides with instructions, checklists, and court forms for various legal issues; and informative resources for topical matters.
