LSLA’s Connecting Texas Kids to Coverage Unit: Keeping Children Healthy

TEXAS MEDICAID AND CHIP PROGRAMS

Texas Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) offer parents peace of mind knowing their children can get the routine preventative care they need, when they need it, keeping them healthy.  These programs secure medical coverage benefits for more than 45 million children. Despite the number of those covered, there are still many children without coverage.

We have a special program dedicated to helping parents get medical coverage for their children. Our Connecting Texas Kids to Coverage Team can guide them through the enrollment process. Both CHIP and Medicaid offer free or low-cost health insurance for kids and teens, and cover services like regular checkups with a doctor, dentist visits, and medicine and vaccines.

APPLICATION AND RENEWAL

Texas Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) are two programs we can help your child obtain. We can help your child begin or renew their benefits with the help of our paralegals and attorneys, who will act as a representative on their behalf.

WHAT WE CAN DO

  • We will assist each applicant to complete an application and submit the application on their behalf.
  • We will act as an authorized representative for the applicant, when possible, which will allow us to track application and enrollment progress more easily.
  • We will work with the client to submit any needed supplemental documents and meet any verification requirements. Once a client is enrolled, we will advise the client on maintaining enrollment and using their coverage.
  • We will monitor term-end dates and upcoming recertification processes and communicate with the client to ensure continued coverage until recertification is complete.

APPEALING THE DENIAL OF BENEFITS

We are available to help SNAP and Medicaid recipients with the appeal process if their benefits have been denied or terminated.  SNAP and Medicaid recipients can apply for free legal help with the appeal process by visiting www.LoneStarLegal.org or by calling 1-800-733-8394.
