Port Arthur Community Action Network’s John Beard Receives 2021 Environmental Advocacy Honors
Port Arthur, Texas – John Beard, the President of PA-CAN (Port Arthur Community Action Network), a community group client of our Environmental Justice Team, is being recognized for his environmental advocacy with two 2021 Awards, the FracTracker Alliance’s 2021 Community Sentinel Award for Environmental Stewardship and the Climate Law Institute’s 2021 Rose Braz Award for Bold Activism.

The Community Sentinel Award for Environmental Stewardship honors those who address the root causes of environmental injustice in the United States, with a strong focus on racial justice in the face of oil, gas, and petrochemical activity. The award recognizes the leadership of those standing up for their communities to protect the places they love.
The Rose Braz award consists of a handcrafted letterpress print by Roger Peet of Justseeds Artists’ Cooperative in Portland, Oregon. The print depicts brown pelicans, a recovered endangered species, and Rose Braz’s favorite animal, symbolically breaking through a barrier wall.
PA-CAN is an environmental justice organization fighting fossil fuel and petrochemical facilities that threaten Port Arthur, Texas.
