LONE STAR LEGAL AID’S TYLER OFFICE ATTORNEY OF THE YEAR AWARD
In commemoration of National Pro Bono Week (October 25th – 29th), Lone Star Legal Aid honors local attorney Leigh Hunt Goodson as Attorney of the Year, Smith County.
Lone Star Legal Aid Pro Bono Awards recognize attorneys, law firms and community partners who donate their time and legal expertise to ensure that all East Texas residents have equal access to the courts. Ms. Hunt Goodson will be formally recognized on October 28, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at the Smith County Court by The Honorable Nathaniel Moran, Smith County Judge, with an Award Certificate from Lone Star Legal and the Honorable J. Brett Busby, Justice, Supreme Court of Texas. A reception will follow the ceremony sponsored by Lone Star Legal Aid and the Smith County Bar Foundation.
Leigh Hunt Goodson has handled pro bono cases through Lone Star Legal Aid since she moved to Tyler from California, shortly after obtaining an LL.M in Taxation there. She has always responded to the call for help and routinely assists in the quarterly Smith County Bar/Lone Star Legal Aid LegaLine, as well as representing clients pro bono in contested divorces, obtaining Guardianships for parents with disabled children who have become adults, obtaining Chapter 7 discharges for clients needing debt relief, and providing estate planning assistance. Her volunteer service has not wavered, and actually increased, throughout the pandemic, earning her the recognition of Attorney of the Year.

Leigh Hunt Goodson is the Owner and Principal at The Goodson Firm, PC, established in 2017 with offices in Tyler and Dallas. Her practice includes Estate planning, Probate, Elder Law and Guardianships, in addition to business entity formation and succession planning services. Leigh is married to Jim Goodson and in addition to her extensive work with Lone Star Legal Aid, she is very involved in both state and local bar leadership. She is the immediate past President of Smith County Bar Association, is the Nominations Committee Co-Chair and Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation, a Director of the Rose City Food Education, Inc., and the Smith County Bar Foundation, a member of the East Texas Estate Planning Council, and Chair of the Women and the Law section of the State Bar of Texas.
