Lone Star Legal Aid Launches New Website

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Houston, Texas – Our website has a new look and optimized features, thanks to Roni Lagin & Co. based out of Philadelphia, PA. Much like our Houston office’s renovation, the website has been redesigned to maximize the efficiency of our mission: providing resources and access to free civil legal assistance to low-income Texans.

While there are many new features, there are a few that deserve written praise.

Upon arriving at our site, there is a safe exit button in the top right corner (of every page). Safe exit buttons are an important element of a well-designed website that includes sensitive information, like a family violence website, or in our case, information for survivors of violent crime, including sexual assault. They allow users to leave the site quickly, if needed. They also act as a prompt when the user first arrives to the site, alerting them that the website contains sensitive information.

Scrolling down, users can access information about the communities we serve and our services while scrolling down the homepage. Each service page will include a relevant resource bank for users to download or view directly from their computer, smartphone, or tablet. Users will also experience various options, from browsing our resource hub pages to reading our news.

An updated events page will display a comprehensive list of our community legal education, clinical, and outreach events. While designing the site, our data analytics and technology training teams worked tirelessly to design an API (Application Programming Interface, which is a software intermediary that allows two applications to talk) that would connect where our staff internally schedules their outreach to the outward facing site.

Another API was built to display our cases available for Pro Bono attorney representation. Volunteer attorneys can browse available cases and sort by law type, and Texas County. If interested in taking the case, they click “Take this case” and fill out the form.

Just like our events page, the available cases page stays up-to-date, always.

We look forward to bringing our clients, communities, partners, and funders more accessibility with the combined efforts of our new site and social media presence.
