May 9th -15th is National Hurricane Preparedness Week

May 9-15, 2021 is National Hurricane Preparedness Week. This week is dedicated to informing, preparing, and planning for disastrous weather this hurricane season.

Rain, wind, and water can happen anywhere, not just on the coast, so it’s keen to start preparing as soon as possible. It is important to consider how COVID-19 might affect your preparation plans. Make sure everyone in your house knows and understands the emergency plan, including any Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines.

Review the CDC’s guidelines for “Going to a Public Disaster Shelter During the COVID-19 Pandemic.”

While keeping your family safe and protecting your home is on top of the list, it is also important to safeguard important documents because you may need them in the recovery process.

A major disaster can cause problems for months, even years, after it hits. Lone Star Legal Aid has extensive experience helping families in our service area and relocated to our service area in an evacuation following a major disaster. This Hurricane Preparedness Week, Lone Star Legal Aid will feature its Disaster Relief Unit on it weekly Friday Law Talk series on May 7, 2021, at 3 PM at www.facebook.com/LoneStarLegalAid
