The Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA) has recently received $1.3 billion in Emergency Rental Assistance funds from the newly passed Coronavirus Relief Bill Rental Assistance Program. TDHCA will use the funds to help renters in Texas pay both current and past due rent and utility bills.
Applicants can require assistance for past due, current, and up to 3 months of expected rent costs and utility and home energy expenses.
After the initial 3 months of forward assistance, you may apply for 3 more months of assistance if funds are still available.

Applications from landlords and tenants will be accepted beginning Monday, February 15, 2021 at 8 AM, Central Time. However, TDHCA’s Texas Rent Relief program website and phone systems are currently up and running to help potential applicants prepare.
By February 28, TDHCA will review and commit funds to two priority groups:
*A percentage of the funds will be set aside specifically for households whose landlords have already sued for eviction. Although the application process is the same, only households in this situation will receive this funding.
