The Coastal Texas Study is a proposal from the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) to spend approximately $20 billion to protect the Texas Gulf Coast from flooding during storms and from rising sea levels. Its impacts will be broad, and affect many aspects of life on the Gulf Coast.
The US Army Corps of Engineers recently released a “Draft Environmental Impact Statement” outlining the project and its impacts, and is now accepting public comments on their proposal.
What exactly is being proposed?
How will I be affected by the project?
How do I comment and make sure my voice is heard?
Why is it important that I participate?
Chase Porter, an Equal Justice Works Fellow with LSLA’s Equitable Development Initiative recently answered these questions during a presentation on Facebook. You can watch the presentation here or here.
For more information and an opportunity to comment, you can visit the Coastal Study website and attend one of several virtual meetings being held by the US Army Corps of Engineers. You can also submit your comments by mail, phone, and email. Comments are due on December 14, 2020!
