The Texas Disaster Legal Help project, a joint project of Lone Star Legal Aid, Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas, and Texas RioGrande Legal Aid, is hard at work, creating resources and integrating advanced technology, to ensure that volunteer attorneys are prepared to effectively respond to the legal needs of disaster survivors – before the next disaster occurs. In the coming months, TDLH will be hosting a series of podcasts on a wide variety of legal topics that affect disaster survivors such as evictions, foreclosure, bankruptcy, and how to prepare for a disaster to avoid the worst of the legal hardships.

Texas Disaster Legal help (TDLH) has already published two podcasts: an introductory episode and “Avoiding Foreclosure After a Disaster.” Learn how the CARES Act protects properties from foreclosure and what is going to happen AFTER the protections expire. Questions on who can foreclose on a property and the different types of foreclosure proceedings will be answered, and listeners can expect to find out more about how to save a home through the use of tax exemptions and deferral and what type of homestead liens are allowed in TX. Guest Speakers Lauren Masullo and Molly Rogers from the Foreclosure Unites at Lone Star and Texas Rio Grande legal aids.

New episodes will be published the first Thursday of every month. Tune in to hear experts speak on these legal issues and hear the innovative resources made available through the project and find out how you can get involved.

Listen on their hosting site BuzzSprout or on Soundcloud. The podcasts will also be available on the TDLH website by accessing your SimpleJustice account.
