Evictions Update for 2021 – FB Live Info Session December 10, 2020, at 12:00 PM CST

Houston, Texas – Lone Star Legal Aid is hosting a Facebook Live event on Thursday, December 10, 2020, at 12:00 PM CST to discuss the Center for Disease Control and Prevention order preventing eviction for the remainder of 2020.

As the end of the year rounds the corner, Texas tenants are anxious about their rights in eviction cases. The federal CDC eviction moratorium has helped Texans avoid homelessness and supplementarily prevent people from congregating and further spreading the Coronavirus. The UCLA has reported that over 4,456 deaths in Texas so far have been attributed to the intersection of evictions and COVID-19. With the eviction protection set to expire on December 31, 2020, Texas tenants have few laws to protect them from eviction in non-payment of rent cases.

Dana Karni, manager of LSLA’s Eviction Right to Counsel Project, and Jon-Ross Trevino, manager of LSLA’s Houston Housing and Consumer Division, will team up once again to provide updates to the community on the resources available going into the new year. Specifically, they’ll discuss what tenants should expect, explaining how the Texas Eviction Diversion Program will diversify, and the measures attorneys will take moving forward.Evictions Update
