As the world continues to fight the spread of the coronavirus, domestic and family violence have intensified. To combat this increase, Lone Star Legal Aid (LSLA) has taken its outreach efforts online with targeted live presentations.
LSLA provides virtual presentations for the community where attorneys and community partners provide legal information about the services they offer. The Safe Space, established by LSLA’s Individual Safety Unit, provides legal information and resources for survivors of sexual assault.
The International Day of the Elimination of Violence against Women’s 2020 theme is Orange the World, Fund, Respond, Prevent and Collect. This specific mission aims to amplify the call for global action, fund money for services for survivors of violence, focus on prevention, and collect data that can accurately improve life-saving services.
In observance of International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, LSLA is proud to affirm its commitment to defending the civil legal rights of women and girls in its service area.
LSLA’s Individual Safety Unit (ISU) focuses on the civil legal rights of survivors of sexual violence which include sexual harassment, sexual threats or intimidation, child sexual abuse, incest, rape, and human trafficking. This special project is generously supported by the Texas Access to Justice Foundation’s Legal Assistance for Survivors of Sexual Assault (LASSA).
LSLA can provide legal assistance in various ways to improve the lives of survivors. Below you will find examples of legal needs LSLA can help with.
