National Night Out 2020 – Postponed in Texas Until October

In Texas, National Night Out is celebrated on the first Tuesday in August, which is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. Millions of neighbors take part in National Night Out across thousands of communities from all fifty states, U.S. territories and military bases worldwide.

In 1984, law enforcement agencies, neighborhood watch groups, civic groups, state and regional crime prevention associations, and volunteers across the nation came together for the first National Night Out event which involved 2.5 million neighbors across 400 communities in 23 states.

Before the 2020 pandemic, neighborhoods would host block parties, festivals, youth events, and cookouts. Emergency personnel would show the kids safety demonstrations, seminars and exhibits.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the National Night Out Committee strongly recommends hat Texas postpones all in-person activities until the first Tuesday in October until further notice.
