Human Rights Day is an annual reserved date to recognize and remind the world of the inalienable rights that everyone is inherently entitled to regardless of race, color, religion, sex, language, political, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. Human Rights Day is observed by the international community every year on December 10. In 1948, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The document lists a broad range of political, civil, social, cultural, and economic rights and is translated in over 500 languages. The declaration also has inspired over 60 standard human rights.
The 2019 commemoration of Human Rights Day will mark 71 years since the international community adopted the Declaration. Human Rights activists promote efforts to protect human rights and work to decrease the hostility towards human rights. This day advocates for everyone to stand up for their rights and the rights of others.
“To deny people of their human rights is to challenge their very humanity.”
-Nelson Mandela
