Lone Star Legal Aid Honors International Law Firm, Latham & Watkins, LLP

For Immediate Release

October 16, 2017

Harris County, TX – In commemoration of National Pro Bono Week (October 23-29) Lone Star Legal Aid (LSLA) honors the Houston office of international law firm Latham & Watkins, LLP, with the 2017 Lone Star Legal Aid – Houston Pro Bono Law Firm Partner Award.  LSLA Pro Bono Awards recognize attorneys, law firms, and community partners who donate their time and legal expertise to ensure that all eligible residents within its service area have equal access to the courts and legal representation.

The attorneys and staff of Latham & Watkins continue to give generously of their time to help low-income area residents referred by LSLA. In addition, Latham graciously donates space, technical support, and refreshments for a variety of events in support of LSLA’s pro bono efforts. Well outside their day-to-day areas of the law, Latham’s employees have devoted time to learning new areas of the law, as well as how poverty impacts working with LSLA’s clients. Of her experience as a pro bono client with Latham, one LSLA client said, “Meeting with the Latham and Watkins team was an awesome experience! They treated me like royalty and even insisted on preparing documents I didn’t even think I needed.”

Mr. Sean Wheeler, the attorney in charge of Latham’s Houston office, will accept the award on Tuesday, October 24, 2017, during LSLA’s 2017 Pro Bono Award Reception in Houston. The firm’s hard work and dedication on behalf of low-income area residents will be commemorated with a certificate of appreciation from LSLA signed by Texas Supreme Court Justice Eva Guzman, Court Liaison for the Texas Access to Justice Commission, and LSLA’s C.E.O. Paul Furrh, Jr.
