LSLA’s Medical-Legal Partnership (MLP) has been invited by our UTP Clinic, International/Southwest, to participate in their upcoming monthly staff meeting. During this session, we will present on best practices for optimizing the MLP referral process. Additionally, we will engage with the attending medical professionals on issue spotting and address any other pertinent matters that may arise

In partnership with Baker Ripley, volunteers for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) will prepare tax returns for qualified households. Staff from Lone Star Legal Aid will be on site to provide information on our services and how to apply for assistance.

Region 7 Education Service Center and Partners Resource Network have partnered to provide a collaborative transition symposium for students with varying abilities and their parents and teachers.

Participants will have the opportunity to choose from a variety of breakout sessions related to self-advocacy, educational support systems, employment, independent living skills, and community services

You are invited to attend the Resource for Service Members and Veterans on Sunday February 23, 2025 at the Ellington Resource Fair. This event will be held just off-base Ellington Field in the Lone Star Flight Museum parking lot. Our goal is to bring resources to Ellington Field’s active and reserve service members while still allowing Veterans without base access to attend.

Do you have an arrest record that needs to be cleared? Have you been impacted by the criminal justice system? Come to the Aldine Library on February 25 and speak to a Lone Star Legal Aid attorney who will be there to help. Bring any necessary documents with you for review. Those registered will be seen before drop-ins.

LASSA Staff Attorney Heather Patterson will be on site to share information about Lone Star Legal Aid’s Legal Aid for Survivors of Sexual Assault with individuals seeking legal assistance.

Lone Star Legal Aid is pleased to share free legal information about the Basics of Estate Planning. Part 2 of the Advance Legal Planning Series.

This presentation will discuss how to draft your own will using the Texas Supreme Court approved forms and a Transfer on Death Deed. The presentation will also discuss when self-help forms are useful, and when more personalized documents are needed.

LSLA staff will participate in a virtual panel discussion with advocates from UT Law and St. Mary’s School of Law, sponsored by the Poverty Law Section of the State Bar of Texas, focused on how advocates can better serve Texans who inherit their homes.

Build out your toolkit for helping heirs’ property homeowners preserve their homes. From predatory investors to property tax foreclosures, this interactive session will explore the challenges low-income homeowners face when they inherit their homes — and key lawyering strategies to tackle these challenges. We will also navigate the ethical considerations presented by heirs’ property cases.

Also known as heirs property owners, these homeowners have inherited real estate that is jointly owned by the heirs of a deceased owner. Ownership has passed through intestacy (Texas law) or the terms of an individual’s will, but many heirs lack the necessary legal documentation to prove their ownership. This session will provide valuable insights for attorneys and advocates working to protect generational wealth and homeownership stability across Texas.

This presentation is made available to members of the Poverty Law Section through its First Friday CLE series. Pre-registration for this event is required.
