Connecting Texas Kids to Coverage: Children with Medical Coverage are More Likely to Succeed in School

Healthy students are better learners. With medical coverage such as CHIP and Medicaid, students are more likely to attend school and earn higher grades. Many children, including the millions uninsured in Texas have difficulty accessing quality health care. The pandemic has established a new reality that education and health care are linked.

According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), poor nutrition, lack of physical activity and an overall unhealthy lifestyle can lead to poor academic achievement in children. Studies have shown that healthy children get better grades, attend school more often and behave better in class.

Lone Star Legal Aid’s Connecting Texas Kids to Coverage Program (CTKC) legally assists low-income families when applying their kids for medical coverage. We can help your child apply for Texas Medicaid as well as Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).
