Economic Impact Payment Nonfiler Registration Extended to November 21, 2020

The IRS announced yesterday that they were extending the amount of time Americans have to request their Economic Impact Payment (stimulus) to November 21, 2020.  This applies to people who didn’t have to file a 2019 tax return, who didn’t get their payment or register for it.   If you have already completed the non-filer portal but have not gotten your stimulus, do not file again through the portal! It will complicate the issuance of the check.  You can also check the status of your payment by going to the Get My Payment page at https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/get-my-payment.   The IRS will also send a letter to you after it issues your check.  If you receive the letter before your stimulus, you can call the EIP hotline at 1-800-919-9835.

The IRS has also changed its guidance for Social Security, Railroad Retirement and Department of Veteran Affairs benefit recipients.  Previously, the IRS had said these benefits recipients did not need to take further action to receive their EIP (stimulus).  If these recipients haven’t received their payment, they should register with the non-filer tool before November 21st.
