Lone Star Legal Aid Honors Nacogdoches Branch Office Pro Bono Heroes


In commemoration of National Pro Bono Week (October 25th – 29th), Lone Star Legal Aid honors the following with Nacogdoches Branch Office Pro Bono Awards: 

  • W. Albert Weatherly – Attorney of the Year, Nacogdoches County; 
  • Holly Perkins-Meyers – Outstanding Commitment to Pro Bono Service; 
  • Carter A. Meyers – Outstanding Commitment to Pro Bono Service; 
  • Lynda K. Russell – Outstanding Commitment to Pro Bono Service; 
  • Jill Campbell Penn – Outstanding New Volunteer; 
  • Kristen Beall Burns – Outstanding New Volunteer; and 
  • Dorothy L. Scheehle – Law Office of W. Albert Weatherly – Legal Assistant of the Year.

Lone Star Legal Aid Pro Bono awards recognize attorneys, law firms and community partners who donate their time and legal expertise to ensure that all East Texas residents have equal access to the courts. The Honorees will be formally recognized during two recognition ceremonies, both virtual and live. The virtual event will be conducted via Zoom on October 26th at 12 p.m., with recognitions by several distinguished speakers, including Paul E. Furrh, Jr., Chief Executive Officer of Lone Star Legal Aid, keynote speaker Honorable J. Brett Busby, Texas Supreme Court, and several East Texas judges, including the Honorable Clyde Herrington, County Court at Law No. 2, Angelina County. The live Awards Presentation will be November 18, 2021 at noon during the Nacogdoches County Bar Association meeting at the Fredonia Hotel.

The week of October 25th – 29th has been designated the “National Pro Bono Celebration” by the American Bar Association’s Standing Committee on Pro Bono and Pubic Service. The goal is to showcase the remarkable difference that pro bono lawyers make to our nation, our system of justice, our communities and, most of all, the clients they serve.
