Lone Star Legal Aid Launches its Online Intake in Spanish & Vietnamese
Lone Star Legal Aid’s online intake is now available in Spanish and Vietnamese. According to the Texas Tribune, “Of the nearly 24 million people in Texas five years or older, 65 percent speak only English at home. The rest speak more than 160 languages combined.” Spanish and Vietnamese are numbers 1 and 2 in the top 10 languages spoken in Texas, after English. Spanish and Vietnamese speaking Texans will now be able to access legal representation without having to call our phone intake line. “Dealing with a legal problem is a very personal thing, and our goal is for non-English speaking Texans to be able to make an online application without having to rely on friends and family, and especially not abusers, to translate an application for legal help,” said CEO Paul E Furrh, Jr, who added that “applicants with limited English proficiency will now be able to apply for free legal help on their own.” Applicants who use the new online applications in Spanish and Vietnamese will immediately be matched with a Spanish or Vietnamese speaking employee who can complete the application. Lone Star Legal Aid has employees who speak Spanish, Vietnamese and over 16 other languages, providing immediate access to legal assistance for eligible clients in the most diverse city in the country.
