5 Years Later – Lone Star Legal Aid Celebrates the Impact of Qatar Harvey Funds

Houston, TX – Lone Star Legal Aid is on the front lines of supporting low-income families in East Texas when disaster strikes. Five years ago, Hurricane Harvey devastated our region and left thousands with unstable housing, food insecurity, and uncertainty about their future well-being. Supported by the Bob Woodruff Foundation (BWF), the State of Qatar, and Qatar Harvey Funds, LSLA’s Military and Veterans Unit provided free legal help to veteran survivors impacted by Harvey.

This funding supported disaster services to veterans and their families in the following areas:

  • Emergency food stamps and unemployment benefits
  • FEMA appeals
  • Home-repair contracts and contractors
  • Landlord/Tenant issues
  • Proof of homeownership to help with repair and reconstruction assistance
  • New wills, powers of attorney, and other legal papers lost during the disaster

Bob Woodruff Foundation recently met with some of its local partners in Houston for the five-year anniversary of Hurricane Harvey. These partners provided impactful support to over 17,000 veterans and their families affected by this life-altering storm. We are grateful for BWF funding, which enabled us to serve veterans and their families during this catastrophic event.
