April 7, 2022 is World Health Day – Connecting Texas Kids to Coverage

April 7, 2022 is World Health Day. Lone Star Legal Aid’s Connecting Texas Kids to Medical Coverage Unit provides legal assistance to those who need help accessing health care benefits for their children. There are 623,000 children without health insurance in Texas. Those who lack insurance coverage typically experience far worse health status than those insured. Uninsured children in Texas may get low-cost health care from the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) or no-cost health care from Children’s Medicaid.

By providing legal services to children, we are building a healthier world. Healthy children are better prepared to succeed in school and in life. Texas Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) offer parents and care givers peace of mind knowing their children are covered and can receive the care they need. Having high quality, affordable health coverage can mean the world to children and their families. Together, we can implement healthier ways by building a healthier world.

What we can do

  • We will assist each applicant to complete an application and submit the application on their behalf.
  • We will act as an authorized representative for the applicant, when possible, which will allow us to track application and enrollment progress more easily.
  • We will work with the client to submit any needed supplemental documents and meet any verification requirements. Once a client is enrolled, we will advise the client on maintaining enrollment and using their coverage.
  • We will monitor term-end dates and upcoming recertification processes, and communicate with the client to ensure continued coverage until recertification is complete.
