Lone Star Legal Aid Honors Veterans During Texas Veterans Legal Aid Week 2024

For Immediate Release
November 19, 2024

Lone Star Legal Aid proudly hosted a series of impactful events and community education presentations last week as part of Texas Veterans Legal Aid Week (TVLAW). Designed to provide critical legal resources to veterans and their dependents, these events addressed common legal challenges faced by those who have served our nation.

Throughout the week, our dedicated team of attorneys and advocates visited multiple communities across Texas, offering workshops, legal clinics, and one-on-one consultations. Topics included veterans’ benefits, housing rights, wills and estate planning, and navigating discharge upgrades. These sessions provided valuable legal information and created a space for veterans to connect with the resources they need.

Among the highlights of the week were:

  • LSLA/Teague Veterans Center Legal Clinic: A collaborative clinic offering veterans personalized legal assistance hosted at the Teague Veterans Center to simplify access to critical legal services.
  • Temple VA Coffee with Veterans: An informal event where veterans gathered for coffee and discussed available legal resources and support.
  • LSLA/Beacon Legal Clinic: A joint effort at Combined Arms in Houston, providing tailored legal support to veterans in need alongside community resources.
  • Tyler Homeless Veterans Stand Down: A comprehensive event in Southeast Texas offering homeless veterans and their families access to legal aid, medical services, housing information, and more.
  • Jasper Homeless Veterans Stand Down: A comprehensive event in Southeast Texas offering homeless veterans and their families access to legal aid, medical services, housing information, and more.
  • Navigating Veteran Resources to Help Start and Grow Your Business: A resource fair and panel discussion focused on veteran entrepreneurship, featuring insights into funding opportunities and expert advice.
  • Veterans Benefits Expo: An expo hosted at TAMUCT to connect veterans with information about VA benefits, services, and community resources, attended by over 150 participants last year.
  • Coffee for Vets at Black Rifle Coffee Company: A casual meet-up providing veterans a chance to connect with legal aid resources over coffee.
  • Estate Planning and Legal Advice Clinic: A full-day clinic at the DeBakey Medical Center offering estate planning and legal advice tailored for veterans and their surviving spouses.
  • The Basics of Representing Veterans – Continuing Legal Education: A CLE session for attorneys covering the essentials of representing veterans in VA disability cases and discharge upgrades.
  • Veterans’ Essentials: Discharge Upgrades, Education and Disability Benefits, Home Loans, and More: A week-long series of free legal services addressing critical civil legal issues for Texas veterans, coordinated by the Texas Access to Justice Foundation.

We were honored to work alongside local organizations, veteran support groups, and community leaders who share our commitment to serving those who have served us. The turnout at each event was a testament to the ongoing need for legal aid in the veteran community, and the trust veterans place in Lone Star Legal Aid.

Reflecting on Texas Veterans Legal Aid Week, we reaffirm our commitment to providing accessible, high-quality legal aid to veterans and their families.
