January 31st is the IRS’ Earned Income Credit Awareness Day

Earned Income Credit Awareness Day is an event organized by the IRS and its partners to educate the public about the EITC and requirements to claim the credit. The goal is to raise awareness of EITC to ensure every qualified worker claim and receive their EITC.

What is the EITC?

The Earned Income Tax Credit, EITC or EIC, is a benefit for working people with low to moderate income. To qualify, you must meet certain requirements and file a tax return, even if you do not owe any tax or are not required to file. EITC reduces the amount of tax you owe and may give you a refund.

This year, LSLA’s Low Income Taxpayer Clinic will host its weekly Friday Law Talk on January 29th to educate the public on this crucial benefit.
