Taxes & the ShutdownYOUR TAXES ARE STILL DUE: If you got an extension of the time to file your 2012 taxes, know that IRS has NOT changed the due date: Your tax return still must be filed on or by October 15, 2013. During the shutdown:
NO IRS deadlines have been extended. The IRS will not respond to requests for collection waivers. The Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS) will not be accepting new cases. No new levies (taking money from paycheck, bank account or from Social Security or other benefits) will be put into effect. Existing levies, i.e. where the IRS is taking money tp pay taxes already owed, are still in place. Need help sorting this out? Our Low Income Taxpayer Clinic continues to accept cases.
